The lateral lunge, a.k.a. side squats, are great for working the legs independently from one another.
Get into a very wide stance and drop all of your weight into one leg.
Keep your knee and foot pointing forward at all times.
Keep your hips forward at all times as well.
Alternate between the two legs.
